Date Night in Echo Park

Sign look a little old school? A little theatre-y? That’s because it is. Mohawk Bend, a new joint in Echo Park, is a 10,000 square foot 100-year old Vaudeville theater retrofitted into a new bar and restaurant.
This vibrant restaurant has four eating and lounging spaces. All uniquely designed, plush with the feel of an old school theatre and the fittings of a new four star retaurant. The Ramona Room, named for the original vaudeville theater, is the dining room. With greenery, vaulted skylights, mid-century elements, and original brick, this enclosed atrium has a fresh, outdoor feel with natural light and views of Sunset Blvd. No wonder vaudeville is dead.
Custom cherrywood, dim candles, super comfortable chairs, an eclectic environment and rustic brick to maintain its original charm. I’m no Dr. Ruth but I would say this is a safe bet for a date restaurant.
And so we reach my neck of the woods: The Pub. Situated right in the middle of the action, this Willy Wonka Factory for beer, wine, and spirit fans is highlighted by a giant communal table and lots of barstool seating. Yes, that means no more awkward standing around looking for an opportunity to arm-flail over some angry dude’s shoulders to get a beer.
“Come with me… and you’ll see… in this wooorld of pure imagination.”
The enclosed patio is a relaxing step back from Sunset Blvd, offering fresh air seating all year round. The quad, pictured, is a cozy interior under a cathedral ceiling, with views of the bar and open-kitchen from comfortable booths and banquets. So you can just kick back, have a drink with some friends and admire the open kitchen which boasts a custom-built Woodstone oven and dedicated vegan and non-vegan food prep areas.
Also, there is a passageway to the Ministry of Magic. You know, just in case. Sorry, misspoke; its just a giant outdoor fireplace.
Oh yeah, also the food is awesome. Don’t take it from me, check out their website. Enjoy!
